The new Independence we should consolidate is the fight against inequality and inequity, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala said today during the military parade held on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations.

“It is necessary to resolve and reduce inequality gaps between the most advantaged and least disadvantaged, given that we all are Peruvians,” he said.

The President, who presides over the military parade held on Brasil Ave, opted to address the nation in an unprecedented move.

He recalled the country’s national anniversary is a process of fight that allowed us to create the Republic, a complex organization where “we all have to help each other with loyalty and transparency.”

“Even though Independence is achieved by earning freedom, the new independence involves consolidating the fight against inequality and inequity to solve and narrow the inequality gap,” he pointed out.

According to Mr. Humala, the said military parade is the tribute given to the country by Armed Forces, National Police, firefighters and institutions working for the country’s development and defense and those supporting emergency situations.

“Nobody can stop Peru, and we need to continue working in that direction. Long live Peru!” he exclaimed.
