Since August 2011 to date, the Peruvian National Police has increased by nearly 30,000 members; investments in infrastructure and equipment have exceeded efforts carried out in previous decades, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala affirmed on Tuesday.

“Our law enforcement is increasing every day […]. During the current administration, we have been expanding the police force by nearly 30,000 members, and we believe there must be more of them because that is what society demands,” the President underlined.

During these four years in office, the equipment intended for police use largely exceeds the investments made in the previous decade, which turns this institution into a “more professional one,” the Head of State said.

“We are carrying out a real effort to equip the police,” the President told.

Mr. Humala indicated citizen security to be a matter, which “concerns us all and is [therefore] everyone’s task.” Thus, he requested the participation of families, media and government institutions.

Remarks were made after participating in the ceremony marking the delivery of new 560 motorcycles. The new motorbikes are comprised in the total 1,760 acquired by the administration during the current year with the aim of strengthening urban patrolling actions at the national level.

The ceremony took place at the Lima Government Palace's Honor Courtyard. It saw the presence of the Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe and the National Police Director-General Jorge Flores Goicochea.
