Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski paid tribute to Saint Rose of Lima —patron of the Americas and the Philippines— as part of the activities marking the 400th anniversary of her death.

The Head of State gave a floral tribute to the sacred image as a procession passed in front of the Government Palace in Lima.

State ministers, on the other hand, presented white roses in her honor.

Known as "the first canonized saint of the New World," Saint Rose of Lima was born in Lima on 20 April, 1586 and died in 1617 at the age of 31 in the same city.

Her birth name was Isabel Flores de Oliva, and Pope Clement X declared her saint in 1671.

Santa Rosa de Lima —as she is known to Spanish speakers around the world— is considered the patron saint of police officers and nurses in Peru.
