President Ollanta Humala highlighted social programs becoming financially accessible, since it will enable beneficiaries to access banking services, such as loans and savings.

Remarks were made on Tuesday, in the ceremony marking the beginning of the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion's implementation in Tarma (Junin region).

"The social inclusion policy attacks inequality because we are bringing financial inclusion by introducing our compatriots, who benefit from a social program, to the banking system, so they will not get the money hand-to-hand, but through the bank, so they can save their money," the President stated.

The strategy has been designed with the aim of boosting financial inclusion, a State policy, by executing intersectoral actions, which will lead to an inclusive, financial and decentralized economic development thanks to the participation of the private and public sectors' players.

The initiative comprises seven lines of actions focused on: Payments, savings, financing, insurance, consumer protection, financial education and vulnerable populations. Thus seven technical groups have been appointed whose members will design and implement the corresponding plans of actions.

The strategy seeks to promote access and responsible use of financial services, which are safe, efficient, and innovative according to the needs of the Peruvian population.

President Humala was joined by the Development and Social Inclusion Minister, Paola Bustamante; Finance Minister, Alonso Segura; Education Minister, Jaime Saavedra and the First Lady, Nadine Heredia.
