16:33 | Lamas (San Martin region), May. 16.

The Government of Peru prioritizes drinking water services, as well as highways and good schools, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski affirmed on Tuesday.

"We need drinking water and sewerage [services] in all Peruvian towns; that's fundamental and we are working on it," the Head of State indicated.

"We [also] need good highways and schools," he added.

Remarks were made while supervising "Noa Jayatai" (Let's grow) productive development program in Lamas province.

The initiative seeks to strengthen and consolidate family production systems through technical assistance, training and productive assets.

In this sense, the statesman noted the program helps Amazon populations develop production and entrepreneurial capacities to guarantee food security and increase household income.

Noa Jayatai is also geared towards improving rural populations' living conditions, providing enhanced stoves, safe water and solid waste disposal mechanisms.

The President also oversaw animal raising practices following food, vaccine and breeding improvements.

"The world is moving and if you do not move along, you will be left behind. Thus, we want to move forward," the 78-year-old leader told locals.

Lastly, Mr. Kuczynski committed to speeding up administrative proceedings to build hospitals, as well as drinking water and sewerage works in Tarapoto city.

Joining the statesman were Ministers Cayetana Aljovin (Development and Social Inclusion), Elsa Galarza (Environment) and Martin Vizcarra (Transport and Communications).
