Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday said the teachers' strike issue is in the process of getting fixed and is expected to end this Monday.

He recalled Prime Minister Fernando Zavala and regional governors reached agreement over teachers' pay rise, saying it will take effect starting December 31, instead of March 2018, as initially planned.

In statements to RPP radio and TV station, the Head of State said teachers' base salary was S/1,350 (about US$416) when he took office, and it will rise to S/2,000 (about US$617) after a year and a half, which is a significant improvement.

"I think the teachers issue will be solved by Monday. And, of course, we need the resources to make this happen, since we have inherited a not-so-good fiscal situation," Kuczynski commented.

The statesman affirmed his administration will support efforts to train educators so as to qualify for higher salary scales.

Joined by Education Minister Marilu Martens and National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR) head Luis Valdez, Zavala announced the salary raise will be implemented as of December this year.

As part of this joint statement, issued on Thursday, the Education Ministry committed to train every teacher before they go through a performance assessment process.
