Peru’s President Ollanta Humala announced his administration approved a program aimed at enabling technicians to pursue a professional career at university.
It comprises the recognition of technical studies, so youngsters are allowed to conclude professional studies within a shorter period of time.
“This way, our technicians […] are allowed to attend university, take courses left to complete [university studies] and graduate as professionals,” he told.
In this sense, Mr. Humala suggested the next administration to continue with the government-run Beca 18 program, a legacy to be consolidated as a State policy.
The Head of State participated in the welcoming ceremony for 25,000 grant holders held in Lima city. During the event, medals and diplomas were awarded to the outstanding grantees.
Beca 18 is a government-funded education grant program, which covers 99% of the national territory. Its budget totals S/.800 million (about US$254 million) and is aimed at 72,000 beneficiaries.
“This is a program, which stays in Peru; this is a legacy of the nationalist government,” he pointed out.
The Head of State was accompanied by Education Minister Jaime Saavedra and First Lady Nadine Heredia.
