Investment projects executed under the Works for Taxes mechanism will reach US$1.6 billion this year, Prime Minister Fernando Zavala affirmed on Thursday.

The investment system thus expects to more than double the sum registered in 2016, which stood at US$700 million.

"This is to be achieved with the approval of the Works for Taxes regulation, which broadens the scope of sectors and the maximum sums that can be executed in projects in exchange for taxes," he explained.

Zavala went on to add Works for Taxes ventures take less time than public works and even Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).

On the other hand, the high-ranking official referred to industrial activities, assuring the government will seek to implement measures required to boost the sector.

"The idea is to get the industrial sector to grow 3% this year," he added.

The Prime Minister joined the "Industrial Reactivation" executive forum organized by the Production Ministry and aimed to boost the said sector.
