Peruvian President Ollanta Humala will travel to France with the purpose of participating in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Meeting, Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano specified.

As is known Peru intends to fully join the OECD.

"Over the last year, we undertake efforts to meet that important challenge in 2021," Cateriano said during a press conference on Wednesday.

The Peruvian State intends to follow the footsteps of Chile and Mexico, Latin America's only OECD member-states.

According to the President of the Council of Ministers, efforts to join the said organization "should become a State policy."

Mr. Humala will co-preside over the launching ceremony for the OECD Regional Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, taking place within the framework of said entity’s annual council meeting.

Request

The request —for Congress to approve the presidential trip— was already sent to Parliament, it was confirmed.

According to the said document, Mr. Humala will remain overseas from May 30th to June 3rd.

The Prime Minister also assured the Head of State would return in time to exercise his right to vote in the presidential run-off elections to be held on June 5th.
