Peru PM: Pope to bring message of unity and hope

10:14 | Lima, Jan. 18.

His Holiness Pope Francis will bring a message of unity and hope. Plus, he will find a country that makes great efforts on environmental protection and reconstruction, Peruvian Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz affirmed Thursday.

Before leaving for Arequipa city, along with Housing Minister Carlos Bruce and lawmaker Sergio Davila, Araoz said the Supreme Pontiff's arrival creates a festive atmosphere not only for Catholics but also for non-believers.

"This visit generates unity, hope, and excitement, a point where we can find a space for unity again, and Pope Francis brings this message: unity and hope," Araoz was quoted as saying.

"My expectation is that he will find a country that works strongly on environmental issues and on its recovery after last year's natural disasters by responding to emergencies," she added.

According to the Cabinet chief, his visit will also bring values like unity and respect, which are vital for humankind.

When asked about the expected protests around Pope's visit —convened via social media— the government official affirmed the National Police has not granted protesters permits to demonstrate.
