The decision to uninvite Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to the coming Summit of the Americas in Lima is based on international agreements and the Organization of American States (OAS) framework, Peruvian Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz affirmed Friday.

Echoing Foreign Affairs Minister Cayetana Aljovin, Araoz stressed the decision was made on the grounds of the Declaration of Quebec City, which states breaches of the democratic order result in the incapacity to participate in the event.

The Cabinet Chief explained Peru is acting in accordance with its rights as a nation. "We are using the entire constitutional framework and the OAS framework, we are not using any tool that breaches the international agreements."

The Prime Minister also pointed out Venezuela itself signed the said declaration as she explained President Maduro is not welcome at the summit, since he has engaged in non-democratic acts.

Araoz last Thursday affirmed Maduro will not even be able to enter Peruvian airspace, in response to President's recent statements over his unwelcome presence in the country.

Remarks were made during a press conference in Trujillo (northern La Libertad region), where she arrived to oversee post-disaster reconstruction works.

In this sense, the Prime Minister assured the government "is working on the Reconstruction with Changes" and has currently delivered "100% of resources" to regional and local authorities for rehabilitation works.

"We will not stop with the [reconstruction] projects because we want each and every citizen to lead a dignified life, and [we want] their children to be happy along with a family, in democracy and peace," Araoz concluded.
