The Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) believes Peru-based pisco producers should not take part in the Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles scheduled for August 22-24, 2017.
Adex head Juan Varilias defended the Peruvian origins of pisco and stressed the need to keep on working towards reaching new markets.
As is known, Chilean authorities accepted the participation of Peruvian spirits in the competition under the name of "Peruvian grape-distilled drink or aguardiente."
"I suggest that Peru should not participate. That contest will enable the Chilean drink to take all the [pisco category] medals," he underlined.
Varilias assured the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) is working to make Peru globally recognized with a
denomination of origin for such spirit.
Adex official said Peru's efforts are yielding significant results, since many countries recognize pisco as Peruvian.
