Knowledge and ancestral traditions were transferred by senior residents of the Northern Cajamarca's San Miguel province to young school students.

The art of knitting palm leaf hats has been rescued and transferred to younger generations thanks to the support of government-run Pension 65 "Productive Knowledge" mechanism.

Pension 65 provides a financial support of S/.250 (about US$ 78.6) to underprivileged elderly people across the country every two months in a bid to reduce their vulnerability and improve their quality of life. It currently serves 470,000 beneficiaries and is due to assist 500,000 by the current year.

Some 290 seniors, along with their pupils –students of 10 schools based in the province- participated in the first Productive Knowledge Meeting, a talent festival held at the San Miguel’s Main Square.

At the booths, seniors were seen showing their skills in pottery, traditional medicine preparation, singing and praying.

Likewise, the work undertaken by midwives; traditional dish cooking, hot-air balloon manufacturing, among other activities were put on display. Children were seen practicing the arts.

The measure's objective is to spread knowledge about traditional activities to new generations, such as knitting, cooking and handcraft activities.
