Peru, Paraguay deepen trade ties

Peruvian Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano said Paraguayan high-level authorities are willing to invigorate and strengthen economic and trade relations with the Andean nation.

Cateriano made the remarks after his official visit to Asuncion, Paraguay.

The Peruvian Premier agreed with President Horacio Cartes that foreign trade is a wealth, work creating vehicle, and hence improves life conditions of our peoples.

While in Paraguay, Cateriano met with Paraguayan Minister for Industry and Commerce Gustavo Leite to address issues on the bilateral trade agenda. 

The meeting also featured Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador to Asuncion and, Director General for International Trade Negotiation at the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry.

They discussed specific origin requirements for textile-garment sector products within the framework of the Economic Complementation Agreement No 58, inked by Peru and Mercosur to use accumulation of origin.

The meeting addressed their willingness to negotiate a future bilateral instrument on public purchases, trade in services and investments; it also reiterated their mutual commitment to guarantee the flow of bilateral trade and prevent tariff and non-tariff measures from becoming restrictions.

As for trade promotion, he said arrangements are being made to organize trade missions of Peruvian businessmen to Paraguay and vice versa.
