Peru's Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio and Panamanian counterpart Luis Miguel Hincapie agreed that there is great potential to increase trade and investment between Peru and Panama.

They also discussed possibilities to strengthen cooperation programs, taking into account the complementarity of their economies.

The government officials met on Friday during the 2nd Political Consultation Mechanism Meeting —an important dialogue strategy aimed at increasing and deepening the bilateral agenda.

Held in the Peruvian capital, Lima, the event addressed common interests in exchanging tourism-gastronomy cooperation schemes and expertise.

Likewise, Peru and Panama agreed to embark on a dialogue process, and to exchange experiences to examine matters of common interest in favor of young and disabled people, which may facilitate their successful integration into society.

The two Latin American nations agreed to hold the 1st Meeting of Joint Scientific and Technical Cooperation Committee and the 1st Meeting of Peru-Panama Committee to Fight Drugs.

Both authorities reaffirmed their commitment to working together and enhancing coordination in a bid to face new challenges brought about by climate change.

Mr. Popolizio took the opportunity to reiterate Peru's sincere thanks to Panama, for its solidarity after natural disasters that struck along the northern and central Peruvian coastal strip.
