Peru’s Minister of Economy and Finance Alonso Segura indicates the Pacific Alliance integration agenda seeks “common denominators” to harmonize tax and fiscal criteria.

Even though he recognized countries’ tax codes are not necessarily the same, he said similar points can be identified to bring them into alignment.

“Schemes, tax logics, are not equal, and, with that in view, we are going to gain access using other approaches in order to create common denominators and standardize them among the four countries,” he said during the 10th Summit of the Pacific Alliance.

There is double taxation between agreements signed by the member countries; that is why they will be reviewed to identify such common denominators.

“Tax standardization is always complex and is clearly on the table, but it is tackled in a more pragmatic way, which involves identifying tax codes that can be standardized to create a more even level,” he said.

On the other hand, Segura spoke on behalf of the Pacific Alliance Finance Ministers and highlighted the integration-related progress made by capital markets.

He mainly referred to the stock-market integration, which has seen continuous efforts to recognize the secondary market and primary issuances.
