Peru: Over 200,000 to visit Virgen de Chapi Sanctuary this week

More than 220,000 visitors from the all over the world are expected to visit the Virgen de Chapi Sanctuary located in Peru’s Southern Arequipa region.

Those will take part in the festivity to be celebrated on May 1st.

The city’s Archbishop, Monsignor Javier del Rio Alba indicated coordination between the Peruvian National Police, the Red Cross and the Polobaya Districit Municipality has already started. Those intend to ensure the safety of attendees throughout the event.

On April 30 the visitors will go on a pilgrimage to Chapi Sanctuary, in order celebrate one of the largest festivities.

Between that day and May 1, 13 masses will be celebrated at the site.

The Virgen de Chapi Sanctuary is located in the Polobaya district belonging to the Arequipa province. The area can be reached after driving for two hours from the city.

It is considered the most relevant Saint in the region and one of the most popular in the country.
