Peruvian Minister of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS) Milton von Hesse informed that government-assisted housing programs have helped thousands of Peruvian families acquire more than 163,000 social houses since August, 2011.

He said 121,566 Family Housing Bonds (BFH) worth S/.2.15 billion (about US$671 million) in total, mainly for new houses, have been issued as part of the Techo Propio (Own Roof) program.

BFH is a direct subsidy –not exceeding S/.19,250 (about US$5,996)– the State grants to low-income families as a reward for their money-saving efforts.

Also, the Minister informed that 39,601 houses have been financed under the Nuevo Credito Mivivienda mortgage credit, worth a total amount of S/.4.58 billion (US$1.42 billion).

Other financing instruments promoted by the State include Mi Construccion (My Construction) and Mi Casa (My House) programs.

Von Hesse said 10,000 rural houses will be upgraded by the end of the year, which will increase the number of family housing units sponsored by the current administration.

Such interventions are developed through the MVCS National Rural Housing Program.

According to von Hesse, his sector has issued 286,247 title deeds through the Commission for Formalization of Informal Property (Cofopri) so far this year.
