Between January and June 2015, 1,338,889 tourists arrived in city of Cusco.

Of the total, 459,694 were Peruvian nationals and the remaining 879,195 came from overseas, the Regional Director of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) Carlos Landauro affirmed.

Compared to the same period last year, the amount was higher by 82,029 travelers. At the time, 1,256,860 people arrived in the city. It should be noted the figure included 759,335 foreigners.

In remarks to Andina news agency, Landauro indicated that the Machu Picchu Archeological Site, located in the Urubamba province, is “by excellence” Peru’s main tourist attraction.

Likewise, he noted U.S. citizens account for most of the tourists arriving in the Southern city, who are driven by their desire to gaze at archaeological remains and beautiful Inca-themed landscapes. Latin American visitors came in second place.

Other options

The tourist delegations also enjoy visiting other Cusco attractions, such as The Sacred Valley of the Incas and cities: Ollantaytambo, Pisaq, Moray and Chinchero.

Upon arrival, visitors choose the ‘city tour’, which also comprises the Sacsayhuamán, Q’enqo, Pucapucara, and Tamboimachay archaeological sites located 20 minutes away from the city.
