A total of 11,057 families from 50 districts —who were affected by Coastal El Niño phenomenon— have already benefitted from Family Housing Bonuses, Peru's Housing, Construction, and Sanitation Ministry reported Thursday.
As is known, the Inca country was hit hard by said
climate phenomenon in the January-March period. The weather event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods, which destroyed infrastructure and crops, leaving many citizens homeless.
Within this framework, affected families will be able to rebuild their houses relying on solid materials thanks to Techo Propio (Own Roof) housing subsidy program.
It must be noted these 11,057 bonuses entail an investment of S/244.2 million (about US$75.28 million).
Regions
In Ancash region, families from Casma, Huarmey, Chimbote, Coishco, and Nuevo Chimbote districts have so far benefitted from said bonuses.
Likewise, in La Libertad, recipients were citizens of Ascope, Santiago de Cao, El Porvenir, Victor Larco Herrera, Huanchaco, Trujillo, Chao, Viru, and Guadalupito districts.
In Lambayeque, the beneficiaries resided in districts Chiclayo, Cayalti, Chongoyape, Eten, Eten Puerto, Monsefu, Nueva Arica, Picsi, Pimentel, Reque, Santa Rosa, Ferreñafe, Mochumi, Morrope, and Tucume.
Bonuses were also granted to help victims in Supe, Huaral, and Lurigancho (Lima region), as well as Chulucanas, Paita, Castilla, Catacaos, and Cura Mori (Piura region).
It must be noted the reconstruction process involving collapsed or uninhabitable houses will be completed in 2018.
Subsidy
The Family Housing Bonus is a subsidy through which the Peruvian State gives beneficiaries a one-time direct financial support —without any type of charges— as a complement to families' savings and efforts. It aims at easing access to a Techo Propio program home.
