During the second quarter of the year (April-May-June) 7,141 cwt of Peruvian Amazonas region's organic coffee were exported, leading to revenue worth S/.3.761 million (about US$1.183 million), Sierra Exportadora program Chairman Alfonso Velasquez affirmed.
It must be noted Sierra Exportadora is an organization attached to the Ministry of Agriculture aimed at promoting Andean products in domestic and foreign markets.
The organizations that contributed to these shipments the most were: Cooperativa Agraria Rodriguez de Mendoza (Cooparm), Asociación de Productores Cafetaleros Juan Marco El Palto, Cooperativa Central de Productores Agropecuarios de Amazonas (Ceproaa), Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Bagua Grande and Asociación de Productores Cacaoteros y cafetaleros de Amazonas (APROCAM).
This year's exported volume is higher compared to the one shipped during the similar period last year when it reached 3,500 coffee cwt. Among the main destinations are: United States, Canada, Germany, Europe and New Zealand.
"We are essentially assisting the direct export of this product [coffee], by removing intermediation and gaining international recognition for the Amazonas coffee. In this sense, our producers are starting to be known and recognized at these competitive markets," said Velasquez.
Likewise, he indicated Sierra Exportadora provides technical assistance and training with regard to product quality enhancement. Similarly it "puts an emphasis” on the special coffee types, according to the requirements set by international markets, which have already been identified.
