Peru is very optimistic about the possibility of signing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with major Arab economies, representing a potential market of 40 million people, Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Paredes, said Tuesday.
He said agreement on trade, economic, technical and investment cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), paves the way to start an open dialogue with the Arab bloc, resulting in a greater agreement such as an FTA.

The GCC comprises Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

"We are very optimistic about signing an FTA with the Arab countries. We are confident that our economies are complementary and that the pact would lead to a free trade agreement that could benefit both sides", he said during the last day of the III ASPA Summit, held in Lima.

In this regard, he stated he met with Arab entrepreneurs to present them the major investment projects to be implemented in Peru up to 2016, in different sectors, with public funds and public private partnerships.
