Peru's Energy and Mines Minister Gonzalo Tamayo on Sunday opened the Peruvian pavilion at the PDAC 2017 Convention taking place in Toronto on March 5-8.
Canada PDAC International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange is the world's leading convention for people, companies and organizations in, or connected with, mineral exploration and finance.
"We are the most attractive country with the greatest potential in Latin America for mining investments. It is time to invest in Peru," he highlighted.
Led by Tamayo, Peruvian participation comprises a delegation of over 200 government officials and businesspersons.
On this occasion, the national booth will show attendees from 125 countries Peru's geological potential, as well as the competitive advantages making it one of the best destinations for mining investments.
Likewise, the Energy and Mines Ministry will feature presentations, mining maps and other materials useful for investors.
In addition, Tamayo announced the government implements strategies aimed at promoting mining development.
Said strategies comprise the simplification of administrative procedures for mining operations and the update of regulations for starting exploration activities.
Optimism
Following the opening ceremony, the cabinet member noted there is an optimistic environment at the new PDAC event.
"In 2016, Peru drew 6% of the world's budget for explorations; thus, one of our objectives will be to increase this figure," he said.
The opening ceremony was attended by Peru's Deputy Mines Minister Ricardo Labo, Consul-General to Toronto Maria Cecilia Rozas Ponce de Leon, and Canada-Peru Chamber of Commerce President Jorge Leon Benavides.
Canadian Ambassador to Lima Gwyneth Kutz, Peruvian Ambassador to Ottawa Marcela Lopez Bravo and PDAC 2017 organizing committee Chairman Bob Schafer also joined the opening ceremony.
Peru's agenda at PDAC
Peru Day is slated for March 6. This will be an entire day devoted to the analysis of Peruvian mining and investment opportunities available in the Andean country.
Energy and Mines Minister will deliver the address "What is the Peruvian mining vision in the following years?"
Furthermore, he will meet with counterparts from Colombia, Chile, Mexico and the Dominican Republic to exchange experiences about the said sector.
The CEO & Investors Luncheon will take place on March 7 as an attempt to bring together more than 130 senior executives from mining companies and investment firms.
The event will also feature Peru's Prime Minister Fernando Zavala.
