Peruvian non-traditional fishery exports expanded 21.89% between January and November 2017, underpinned by greater shipments of prawn and squid, Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) reported Monday.
Thus, Peru's
fishing shipments value climbed from US$816.482 million (Jan-Nov 2016) to US$995.238 million (Jan-Nov 2017).
Said expansion was mostly explained by higher sales of frozen shell-less and shell-on prawn, as well as of cuttlefish, squid, and squid tube.
In this sense, shipments of cuttlefish, squid, and squid tube totaled US$144.580 million in the January-November period 2017, a 34.72% rise over the similar term the previous year (US$107.320 million).
Likewise, frozen shell-on prawn exports saw a 38.56% rise in the analyzed period, going from US$84.770 million to US$117.453 million.
Lastly, frozen shell-less prawn sales reached US$37.008 million between January and November 2017, a 26.77% expansion compared to the same period the previous year (US$29.194 million).
It must be noted non-traditional fishery sector exports accounted for 2.51% of the country's total shipments in the analyzed period.
