Peru: Non-traditional exports to EU amounted to US$577.5 million

In the first quarter of the year, non-traditional export shipments to the European Union amounted to US$577.5 million, which represented a 7.4% increase in comparison with the same period last year, Peru’s Exporters Association announced (ADEX).
According to cyphers obtained by the guild’s Trade Intelligence System, the agro-exports (non-traditional ones) totaled US$342.1 million. The amount represented a 7.4% increase and led to account for 27.7% of the total shipments to the EU.

Among the most demanded products were: Mangos, grapes, asparagus, bananas, cocoa in grain, avocados, quinoa, peppers, lemon rind, passion fruit juice, spray lacquer, carmine cochineal, artichoke and tomato seeds, among others.

On the other hand, other non-traditional subsectors which displayed an outstanding performance were: Fishing (16.6%), steel and metallurgical (20.9%) and metal-mechanic (33.2%).

Likewise, shipments by following sectors stood out: Non-metallic mining shipment (11.4%), woods (41.6%) and garment (0.1%).


Markets

According to the agro-exporter guild, the Netherlands became main the destination for non-traditional exports in the EU, which amounted to US$176.8 million (2.0% increase).

Among the products most demanded by Dutch importers were: Mangoes, squid and cuttlefish, grapes, asparagus, bananas, shells, cocoa in grains, avocados, etc.

Spain was ranked second totaling US$105.9 million (3.2% increase).

It is followed by Germany (US$58.1 million), United Kingdom, France, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Portugal, Poland, Estonia, Sweden, Finland, Lithuania, Greece and Austria, among others.
