Peru: New International Airport to be inaugurated in June

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Jose Gallardo Ku, affirmed the new International Airport located in Pisco (Ica region) will be ready in May this year.

It will open in June.

“In May we should have the Pisco airport ready for its [corresponding] inauguration, which we are considering to celebrate in June,” he told.

The airport required an investment worth over US$50 million, the Minister told Andina news agency.

Gallardo highlighted the terminal is the first of the group belonging to “Airports of Peru” (ADP), which already "has" a master plan.

By the end of the year the master plans, of all airports to be tendered will have to be ready, he told in advance.

The Minister confirmed the airports in the cities: Tumbes, Piura, Trujillo and Chiclayo are being prioritized.

“Thus, in a few years, with the master plans ready in 2017, we are going to have airports with the features and modernity to be found at the Pisco Airport,” he told.

The new Pisco International Airport is expected to welcome 400,000 passengers annually from 2017.

It will also feature a modern infrastructure and an architectonic design needed to welcome domestic and international flights, according to world standards.
