Natural disasters —currently hitting various Peruvian regions— have so far affected 376,562 citizens nationwide, Peru's National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reported.

As is known, the Inca nation has been at the mercy of heavy rains, landslides and floods over recent weeks.

According to COEN's latest damage assessment report —plus information provided by the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci)— there are 46,384 citizens harmed, 81,263 damaged properties, 5,541 uninhabitable homes and 4,393 collapsed ones.

Action measures

Peru's Health Ministry (Minsa) undertakes a series of efforts, including providing medical care in eight Lima region provinces currently under state of emergency.

Said provinces are: Barranca, Canete, Canta, Huaral, Huaura, Huarochiri, Oyon and Yauyos. Up to now, the portfolio has deployed 54 brigade members to those areas.

Said measures are aimed at preventing diseases usually caused by the aforementioned disasters.

Likewise, Minsa personnel are preparing the Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (EDAN) report.

In addition, health staff gives informative talks on how to prevent dengue fever.
