Peru earned the title of Best International Gastronomic Destination during the 6th edition of renowned Spanish newspaper La Razon's Tourism Awards, the Inca country's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) informed on Tuesday.

Bernardo Muñoz, Economic and Commercial Counselor at Peru's Trade Office in Madrid (Ocex Madrid), received the award during a ceremony held at La Razon headquarters on Monday night.

Attendees —including leading Spanish tourism industry representatives— got to experience Peru's widely-acclaimed culinary offer first-hand at the after-ceremony cocktail party, which featured the best of the Andean nation's Superfoods Peru brand.

Blueberry and passion fruit Chilcanos (pisco-based cocktails); Chicha Morada (purple corn sweet drink) with soursop; Eastern Pacific bonito causa (mashed potatoes salad); as well as quinoa, octopus and asparagus salad, were some of the innovative takes on Peru's nutrient-rich products.

PromPeru Communications and Country Image Director Isabella Falco welcomed the recognition and underlined the role of Peruvian farmers, producers, women and chefs in making the nation's gastronomy a world-renowned trait.

"Spain has always shown a special interest in Peruvian gastronomy and flagship products, and this recognition is proof of that," she pointed out.
