Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications officials, as well as local authorities inaugurated the mobile-phone service installation in Alamor and El Puno population centers located in Northern Sullana and Piura provinces, respectively.

Launched on Sunday, the service will enable to expand mobile phone coverage and thus integrate the area with the rest of the country.

Likewise, it will benefit over 1,300 residents from the both zones.

The projects are developed as part of terms and conditions imposed by the current administration and accepted by Telefonica Moviles with the aim of benefitting Peruvians by allowing them to obtain access to Internet connection and landlines.

In the case of Piura, it is expected to benefit 144 population centers thanks to a gradual investment worth over US$29 million.

Likewise, private investment totals S/.3.020 billion (about US$898.80 million) for coverage expansion purposes at the national level, also addressed to areas which did not rely on the said services.

The goal is to provide Peruvians with equal opportunities through telecommunications and thus dynamize productive activities, which lead to economic development.
