Peru: Minsa to allocate over US$34 million for El Niño action plan

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) will allocate US$34.32 million for executing the action plan to face El Niño climate phenomenon health-related emergency for the benefit of 19 regions and the constitutional province of Callao.

The measure aims at enhancing the quality of health services to be provided throughout the event.
Likewise, it comprises adopting actions to prevent illnesses from spreading, as consequence of the climate phenomenon.

The action plan will enable to guarantee the health services continuity by implementing 750 temporary emergency modules.

According to the decree, the plan comprises regions: Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Cajamarca, Amazonas, San Martin, Ancash, Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Cusco, Puno, Junin, Loreto, Ucayali, Huanuco, Pasco and Madre de Dios, besides Callao Constitutional Province.

In previous weeks, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) authorized a S/.20 million (about US$6.18 million) budget transfer to 14 regional governments, with the aim of reducing the vulnerability of 701 health facilities located in high-risk areas.
