Peru's Energy and Mines Minister Gonzalo Tamayo today announced the implementation of a comprehensive program to reactivate mining projects in the country through Congress-granted legislative powers.

"This program is based on four measures: social advancement for communities, paperwork reduction, modification of the General Canon Law and creation of a productive reconversion program for companies affected by mining projects," he highlighted.

Remarks were made during the event Mining & Investment Latin America Summit, which gathered Mining Ministers of Chile (Aurora Williams), Argentina (Daniel Meilan), Ecuador (Javier Cordova), Brazil (Vicente Lobo) and Peru.

The five government officials exchanged experiences concerning the sector, as well as development proposals for years to come.

"It's been a productive meeting. We have addressed matters of paramount importance for Latin American mining, where Peru has consolidated its place as main investment destination," Minister Tamayo underlined.

To conclude, the Mining portfolio head referred to the gradual reactivation of certain mining projects halted due to the international context.

"For instance, there's the resumption of drilling at the Ollachea project (Puno region), Marcona (Ica region) and Toquepala (Moquegua region) mines' expansion, as well as the new Tambomayo project," he pointed out.
