An increase in MICE tourism has attracted over US$1.5 billion in hotel investments into the Peruvian capital, Lima Convention and Visitors Bureau President Carlos Canales informed on Monday.
MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conferences
and exhibitions.
The activity has seen a sustained double-digit annual growth over the past five years, with Peru enjoying the highest hotel occupancy rates in the region.
"This growth facilitated hotel investments worth over US$1.5 billion for 3,000 new rooms at 3- to 5-star hotels in about 40 projects," he underlined.
According to Canales, the delivery of projects started this year and will continue thru 2021.
"International brands have come including Aloft, Mercure, Hyatt Centric, NHOW, Meliá Residence, Ibis Budget, Hilton Garden, Starwood, AccorHotels, Meliá, Hyatt and Windham. They will be present in Miraflores, San Isidro, Surco and Callao [districts]," he stated.
Likewise, Canales noted the development of Peruvian hotels, which successfully entered the 3- to 4-star segments.
