The unblocking of Lima Metro Line 2 and Jorge Chavez International Airport expansion works could enhance Peru's business climate if followed by other projects, BBVA Research Chief Economist Hugo Perea said Friday.

"Lima Metro Line 2 and [Jorge Chavez] airport unblocking news are definitely positive," the BBVA expert told Andina news agency.

"We expect similar announcements in the medium term to see how a better business climate unfolds," he added.

However, Perea recommended prudence and warned against "being too optimistic."

Metro Line 2

As is known, Transport and Communications Minister Bruno Giuffra on Thursday announced the approval of Lima Metro Line 2 engineering studies, and hence the unblocking of the venture.

Giuffra said investment of the project could lead to a S/1-billion (about US$300 million) cash injection into Peruvian economy.

On the other hand, signing of the addendum unblocking Jorge Chavez's US$1.5-billion expansion works is slated for next Tuesday.

In this sense, Minister Giuffra said the addendum does not stipulate any financial compensation, but rather the schedule for land transfer, interferences and corresponding deadlines.
