A delegation of Peruvian tourism officials has arrived in Russia to meet with local tour operators and attract more tourists from that country, according to a report by Ria Novosti news agency.

"The Russian tourist has a high purchasing power and is constantly searching for new experiences like those on offer in Peru," said PromPeru's coordinator for the Asia-Pacific, Rosana Guinea.

She noted that Peru wants to increase its presence in the Russian market, following the example of other South American countries which have been working there for a long time.

"The number of Russian tourists visiting Peru is still small compared to other countries," Guinea added. "But we are confident that this number will grow, despite the distance between the two countries."

The PromPeru official also hinted at the possibility of organizing familiarization trips for Russian media and tour operators to the country in the coming months.
