Peru: June exports up by 2.2%

Last June, Peru's total export volume increased by 2.2% compared to the similar period in 2014.

The said growth rate reversed the negative results registered in the previous 15 month, the National Institute of Informatics and Statistics (INEI) announced.

In the analyzed months, main target markets were: China (21.2%), USA (16.3%), Switzerland (5.3%), Spain (5.0%) and Canada (4.5%).

On the other hand, the trade balance recorded a US$23 million surplus (in nominal terms).

Traditional products

In June 2015, exports of traditional products increased by 11.7% compared to the similar period in 2014.

"The performance, obtained after 15 months of negative results, was essentially based on the larger shipments of minerals (21.0%) and fishery products (44.5%)," it indicated.

In this framework, there was an increase in shipments of copper (39.7%), gold (3.4%), zinc (19.6%), lead (9.7%), tin (14.3%), fishmeal (65.1%) and natural gas (57.4%).

Among the main target markets were China, Switzerland, U.S., Canada and Spain.

Raw material

In June, imports of raw material and intermediate products expanded by 6.8%, followed by those of consumer goods, whereas acquisition of capital goods and construction materials reduced by 11.1%.

Among the top import-supplying countries were China, which accounted for 26.1% of the imported amount, followed by United States (18.1%); Mexico (6.0%); Brazil (4.6%) and South Korea (3.2%).

In the first half of the year, imports declined by 5.3%.
