Peru, Israel agree to strengthen bilateral cooperation

Peru's President Ollanta Humala and his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres have agreed to deepen and enhance the two nation's bilateral relationship by increasing cooperation in agriculture, education and health.
During a meeting held in Jerusalem on Monday as part of his first-ever visit to the Middle East nation, President Humala requested the Israel's top authority to provide scholarships to low-income Peruvian students for futher boosting cooperation in the education field. 

The Peruvian leader noted that currently there are 15,500 young beneficiaries of the nationwide scholarship program 'Beca 18', reaching a rapid and steady growth over the last years.

Furthermore, the two parties addressed efforts toward gearing and expanding economic ties through increasing cooperation in new irrigation techniques, water desalination at profitable costs and management of this resource.

For his part, President Peres hailed Peru for its remarkable sustained economic growth over the last 12 years and expressed the willingness of Israel to bolster a close collaboration.
