Peru is the top country in the world regarding its own prospects for economic development, according to consultancy firm Grant Thornton.

According to figures from International Business Report 2012 (IBR), which surveyed over 11,500 business executives and owners from 40 countries, 96 percent of Peru’s private companies estimate their performance will have a positive balance in the next twelve months.

“A factor of this trend is the fact that between the first and second quarter of 2012, our level of optimism has increased by six percentage points," the report said.

Furthermore, the report said Latin America had the best combination of optimism in the world, despite the global economic climate.

The year’s third quarter, the report said, would be decisive for growth in the region for the next two years.

"It's good that Peru has maintained in first place, but we must use this to solve the structural problems that still have, such as remaining infrastructure [projects] and good social climate for large investments," said Jose Luis Sarrio, partner & director of Grant Thornton IBC Peru,

After Peru, the most optimistic countries, during the second quarter, were Chile, where 90 percent of private companies said they had a positive outlook, Philippines (90 percent), Georgia (83 percent) and Canada (70 percent), website Peruthisweek.com reported.
