The governments of Peru and Indonesia have agreed on a plan of concrete actions to increase bilateral trade, Peru's Foreign Ministry (MRE) has recently reported.
The agreement was reached at the meeting held between the Peruvian Ambassador to the Asian country Roberto Hernán Seminario Portocarrero and the Director General for National Export Development of Indonesia's Trade Ministry Nus Nuzulia Ishak.

The roadmap called "Specific Work Program 2014-2015", comprises a schedule of activities including two high-level seminars on the potential of both markets and business conferences, which are expected to take place in the Andean country's capital Lima and Jakarta in 2014 and 2015.

The plan also includes a commitment to jointly participate in major trade fairs and regular meetings to evaluate the results.

"This achievement clearly shows the common interest between the two nations to boost bilateral trade positively, which is reflected in the recent opening of the Foreign Trade Office of Peru in Jakarta," according to the Ministry statement.

It added, "both governments are negotiating the Terms of Reference for a Preferential Trade Agreement".

Last March, Peruvian Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva announced that, in the second half of this year, Peru and Indonesia will begin negotiations to reach an agreement that favors preferential trade between both countries.

Indonesia can be an important market for Peruvian products, as it is a country of 248 million inhabitants and has an US$867,000 million GDP.

In 2013, trade between the two countries amounted to US $312 million.
