Peru's outgoing President Ollanta Humala Tasso handed over presidential power and left the Government Palace after having completed his five-year term in office (July 2011-July 2016).

Before departure on Thursday morning, Mr. Humala was joined by outgoing Cabinet members and wife Nadine Heredia.

The former Head of State was farewelled amid applause and cheers from supporters. Afterwards, the couple got into a State-owned black automobile and left the site.

Earlier this morning, he was saluted by his Council of Ministers and attended Mass and Te Deum held at Lima-based Cathedral, on the occasion of Peru’s 195th independence anniversary.

State ministers, senior government officials, diplomats, as well as high-ranking military and police officers also participated in the religious ceremony.
