Hotel investments in Peru will surpass US$3 billion by 2021, Lima Convention and Visitors Bureau President Carlos Canales projected.

60% of the said investments will be allocated to Lima-based projects and the remaining 40% to the country's interior cities.

"That means there is a hotel boom in our country. There are international chains desiring to enter Peru, the most attractive country for carrying out investments in the hotel sector," Canales stated.

It must be noted hotel growth in Peru surpassed the 10% rate over the last decade.

"The country registered more than US$2.5 billion in hotel investments between 2010 and 2016. 40% of this figure correspond to Lima," he said.

The officer also addressed the need to set out rules aimed at promoting investments in this sector, in a similar way to those implemented for the benefit of mining and agribusiness activities.

Likewise, Canales noted 98% of hotel investments in the Andean nation come from national investors.

Lastly, the officer underlined the hotel occupancy rate in Lima is one of the highest in Latin America.
