The
High-Level Panel on Water consists of 11 Heads of State and Government (Australia, Mexico, Mauritius, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Hungary, Jordan, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, and Tajikistan), the United Nations Secretary-General, and the World Bank Group President.
The HLPW was created in April 2016 for a two-year period. It is committed to bringing solutions to the biggest challenges —linked to
water and sanitation— the world faces nowadays.
In this sense, HLPW's recommendations constitute a valuable legacy for the international community, and particularly, for Peru which has —among its top priorities— to
provide water and sanitation services to all citizens by the country's Independence Bicentennial (2021).
Likewise, the panel's works are in line with national policies, as they seek to articulate efforts to
value water and strengthen its governance; adopt an agenda at the local, national and regional levels; and foster international cooperation.
Within this framework, the Peruvian leader on Tuesday
reiterated the relevance of addressing the water issue from a comprehensive perspective that mainly focuses on effective water and sanitation management.
