Peru holds 11th position in FIFA world ranking

Peru's national soccer team secured a historic qualification for Russia 2018 and is placed 11th in the monthly world ranking issued by FIFA.

Led by Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca, the red-and-white side dropped one place from its 10th position last month.

Peruvians have just played in a playoff tie against New Zealand, clinching the last ticket to the World Cup thanks to a 2-0 aggregate win over the All Whites.

In this sense, the Incas surpass teams from Denmark (12th), Italy (14th), England (15th), Mexico (16th), Croatia (17th), Sweden (18th), the Netherlands (20th) and Senegal (23).

Germany remains top of the ranking, followed by Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, France and Chile.

South America

As for the South American Football Confederation's (CONMEBOL) rankings, Peru holds the fourth position, behind Brazil (1st), Argentina (2nd) and Chile (3rd). However, it surpasses Colombia (5th), Uruguay (6th), Paraguay (7th), Bolivia (8th), Venezuela (9th) and Ecuador (10th). 

World Cup

The city and group they will play in at the World Cup will be announced during the Final Draw on December 1.

Peru is placed in Pot 2, along with Spain, England, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Switzerland and Croatia.
