Peru Health Min ratifies commitment to make medicines available to every citizen

Peru's health sector is committed to adopting necessary measures to guarantee incoming medicines are safe, effective, good-quality and available to the entire population, Health Minister Patricia Garcia affirmed today.

According to the government official, the pharma sector has seen significant development in biological medicines, specifically biotechnological ones. These products have served to treat chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hepatitis C, among others. 

Remarks were made during the Peru-Korea Pharmaceutical Cooperation Forum opening ceremony. 

"The South Korean pharmaceutical sector's interest in participating in the Peruvian market will favor free competition and price reduction for the benefit of our population,"she pointed out.

The Health portfolio Head expressed her appreciation for South Korea's major mutual assistance initiative. Likewise, she noted the Forum is an additional example of both countries' strong friendship ties. 

"We encourage efforts for our citizens to enjoy the fundamental right of health," she stressed.

The event was also attended by Peru's Chemical-Pharmaceutical Association National Dean Amelia Villar, South Korea's Health and Welfare Ministry representative Choi Young-hyun and South Korean Ambassador to Peru Keun Ho Jang, who highlighted the union between both countries.

"Health has always proved a strategic cooperation foundation with Peru, and we will continue to work in the exchange of knowledge," the Asian diplomat underlined.
