The central government will invest over S/.8.50 billion (about US$2.67 billion) to build and remodel a set of hospitals and health centers located in each Peruvian region, Peru's Health Ministry revealed.

Arturo Granados, the Decentralization Chief at the Health Ministry, explained 130 hospital-projects have been executed since 2011. The amount includes one national, four regional and 13 provincial hospitals, as well as 112 health centers.

“What we will execute thru July next year are three national, six regional, 12 provincial hospitals and 30 small health centers,” the official told Andina news.

Granados went on to add the portfolio will "get things ready" for the next administration to build 54 provincial hospitals and close to 30 small health centers.
According to the official, 749 health facilities are comprised in the investment plan. In this sense, "we can manage to cover 80% of the demand," he told.

“But it implies the next and the subsequent administration’s efforts [...],” he expressed.

The chief went on to explain the regional governments have managed to issue the pre-investment dossier, whereas the Ministry transfers the resources for corresponding execution.
