Peru gov't to invest US$10.8mn in Cusco's irrigation works

Peru's Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) has recently said it plans to allocate more than 30 million soles (US$10.8 million) in irrigation works and riverside defenses with the aim to improve agricultural productivity in Cusco region, southern Peru.
During his visit to Cusco, Minagri's head, Juan Manuel Benites, noted three riverside defense works for a total investment of US$4.5 million are scheduled to be inaugurated in the Urcos district in order to protect 500 ha of crops and villages near the Vilcanota River.

Benites emphasized that his portfolio will invest more than 26 million soles to finance several irrigation works in different districts of Cusco.

Furthermore, the Agriculture minister announced an additional investment of 115mn soles for irrigation works in the region for 2016.

On the other hand, he noted that Minagri through the social program Agro Rural has begun to deliver 16,420 hay bales and 5,731 first aid kits to nourish and protect more than 537,100 animals including alpacas, cattle and sheep living in rural areas shocked by the intense freezing frost.
