The Peruvian government has issued a statement strongly condemning violence between Israel and Palestine, resulting in large numbers of deaths and injuries and posing renewed threat to regional peace and stability.
Indiscriminate and massive bombings as well as rocket attacks have left several people dead, including children, in recent days due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict centered on the Gaza Strip, causing terror among citizens.

According to an statement from the Andean country's Foreign Minister, the government call on both countries to immediately stop attacks and to begin a dialogue process with the aim to find a peaceful solution to their dispute.

"The government of Peru calls for the immediate cessation of violence and the search for a settlement between the parties in conflict through negotiation and dialogue[...]. Said settlement should enable both states to live in peace within secure and internationally recognized borders," the statement reads.

Likewise, the country's administration also called for respect for human rights and international humanitarian law and offered  "condolences to the friends and family of those Palestinian and Israeli who were killed or injured."

"Peru joins the call made by the United Nations' Secretary-General to exercise maximum restraint and to resume constructive negotiations leading to a viable solution, the statement says.

Speaking at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Thursday, the UN Secretary-General  Ban Ki-moon,  called on the international community  to do everything possible to resume negotiations toward a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.

"It is more urgent than ever to avoid another Israeli-Palestinian war that could engulf the entire region and called on both sides to agree to a cease-fire," Ban told the Security Council.
