Peru’s Finance Minister, Alonso Segura, underlined that the last government’s measures, in particular the personal and corporate income tax cut, aim to achieve an economic growth target close to 6% by the end of 2015.

“The last measures adopted by the government are very aggressive and bold; we think they will help the economy expand by 6% by the end of 2015,” he told RPP radio.

The said preventive actions, launched yesterday, are estimated to provide a fiscal impulse of about 2 percentage points of the gross domestic product (GDP).

“What we need is confidence and, as investors put their money in the country and consumers spend and perceive the economy is moving full steam ahead, matching that rate of 6% is not a problem,” he noted.

Likewise, Mr. Segura explained taxes in Peru “are higher for those who do pay, which is why it is time to sacrifice fiscal revenues to stimulate consumption.”

“As income tax is reduced, you can give people more income to spend, so you can get part of fiscal revenues through the general sales tax (IGV)," he added. This also reduces the degree of informality.
