The Peruvian Government must keep working firmly on making Amazonian indigenous communities visible so that they can access State services, Development and Social Inclusion Minister Jorge Melendez pointed out.
The minister told Andina news agency that his administration focuses on assisting excluded communities and
fighting poverty, two topics on which the Inca country has
made progress. Yet, he said, there is much to be done.
"Our challenge is to reach out to
Amazonian communities. The Development and Social Inclusion Ministry's aim is to make them visible in order to provide them with the necessary services […]," he noted.
Moreover, Melendez highlighted the importance of distributing identity cards among these communities, so they can have access to free-of-charge Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS). Said initiative aims at protecting vulnerable populations' health.
For this reason, State sectors must keep articulating efforts to meet the needs of citizens residing in hard-to-reach areas.
The official went on to add Peru's experience in the fight
against: poverty,
chronic malnutrition, and child mortality is well-recognized abroad.
