After overflying Catacaos, Cura Mori, Garcia and Simbila, as well as other cities affected by heavy rain and flooding in Piura, the Government of Peru adopted four emergency measures to foster immediate help for victims and relocate them to safe places with a roof and food.

Actions are as follows:

1. Evacuation

Some 1000 people, mainly from Catacaos, will be evacuated over the next 24 hours. Helicopters and Zodiac boats will be used to that end.

2. Shelters

Five shelters are already operational for 2,500 people; other five are being set up to accommodate up to 7,000 persons.

3. Flood water draining out

Some 60 water pumps are available at the moment. Besides, 45 additional pumps and 10 hydro-jets are being sent to clean and unclog drainage systems as quickly as possible.

4. Security and health

Permanent security operations are being conducted by the National Police. On the other hand, Health Ministry is in charge of fumigation, and is bringing nurses, doctors and rescue teams to affected areas.
