The national Cuna Más program has assisted 108,715 children residing in 24 regions of Peru under the day care and accompaniment service modalities.

The aforementioned program, created by the Development and Social Inclusion Ministry, is aimed at assisting toddlers under 3 years of age, who live in underprivileged and extreme poverty areas.

By the end of 2015, the goal will be to have assisted 143,849 infants. Some 166,569 will be added by July 2016, the Cuna Mas Executive director Jorge Fernandez Iraola affirmed.

Additionally, over S/.60 million (about US$18.8 million) were set aside to acquire equipment and material required to improve the quality of both modalities.

It should be noted Cuna Mas program has built 89 Comprehensive Assistance Child Centers (CIAI) -worth s/.87 million (about US$27 million)- in 18 regions thanks to Foncodes (Peru’s Cooperation Fund for Social Development) support with the aim of favoring over 4,780 children.

Another relevant aspect is the joint work conducted by the Health sector, based on delivering micronutrients required to tackle anemia, conducting immunization sessions and controlling children's weight and height, as well.

Cuna Mas also works with RENIEC (National Registry of Identification and Civil Status). The government institution registers children and issues corresponding Identification Documents.
